# Talk:List of mathematical theorems

## Why this page should be merged with list of theorems[edit]

The fact that some things that fall short of mathematical rigor in some fields are called "theorems" does not appear to me to necessitate separate Wikipedia pages. The existence of separate pages causes confusion: I listed Stanley's reciprocity theorem on the list of theorems page and it didn't occur to me that there was this other page on which I would want to list it for exactly the same reason. A single "list of theorems" page could contain a note at the top saying that propositions conventionally called theorems that are not necessarily purely mathematical or that are not necessarily rigorously proved may also be included. The overlap between things appropriate for one page and those appropriate for the other is absurdly high. Michael Hardy 00:40, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC)
